Sanctuary counties are defined here based on data received via a Freedom on Information Act request filed by the Immigrant Legal Resource Center and shows status as of 2016. PRI is updating the map as sanctuary status in counties changes.

This map has been updated to reflect a new California law expected to take effect Jan. 1, 2018. Most efforts to change sanctuary status are being done on the local level.
